The Greenville Arts Council is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization that works in public/private partnership with the City of Greenville and the Washington County Convention & Visitors Bureau. Our agency also receives public funding from the Mississippi Arts Commission. Additionally, our programs and services are supported by private foundations, corporate donors, our volunteer board of directors, and individuals committed to cultural development in the city.

The mission of the Greenville Arts Council is to promote the rich cultural heritage of the region and stimulate and encourage cultural activities, arts appreciation, arts education, and the creative works of artists.

Some of the responsibilities that help define the Greenville Arts Council as the primary promoter of the arts in our area include offering art classes to children and adults, organizing community events, presenting an ongoing series of free exhibits featuring visual artists from the area and the state, and coordinating educational programs, which teach arts-integration method in our local schools.

Community arts organizations, like the Greenville Arts Council, are significant to the economic and cultural development of any population. Art Centers and art influenced programming generate the revitalization needed to breathe new life into once flourishing communities. The Greenville Arts Council plays a key role in serving as a centerpiece for redevelopment and cultural renewal of Greenville and Washington County. The Greenville Arts Council will continue to provide and maintain a space for vibrant public programming that promotes a positive regional and community image.

We are grateful to our members for their support, without which we could not provide the range of services we do. Please consider becoming a member today.

AmeriCorps*VISTA Host Site

The Greenville Arts Council is a proud host site of two AmeriCorps*VISTA service members. VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a federal anti-poverty program administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service. VISTA provides full-time volunteers (VISTAs) to support projects at nonprofit, grassroots organizations, and local government agencies that operate programs to help alleviate poverty in the United States. VISTAs strengthen and support these organizations by improving their infrastructure, expanding community partnerships, securing long-term resources, training program participants, and developing other activities that help build long-term sustainability for overcoming poverty.
