The Greenville Arts Council is pleased to present the artwork of the Mississippi Plein Air Painters in the Malkin Gallery from January 15 through February 26. All artwork is available for purchase. Visitors are encouraged to view the exhibit during the weekday hours of 10:00 - 3:00. Masks must be worn, and social distancing will be observed. Please call 662-332-2246 to make an after-hours reservation to view the art.  

 

Mississippi Plein Air Painters (MPAP) is a group of artists that meets together with the focus of painting outdoors and growing artistically with the help of each other. The group consists of all skill levels of artists working in various mediums such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, and pastel. Established in 2014, MPAP meets casually multiple times a year as well as hosts an annual 3-day paint-out each fall.

In 2018, the MPAP hosted the “Great American Paint Out Day” through Oil Painters of America, where over 40 artists from multiple states joined together to paint around the square at Oxford, MS. This annual event, called, "Mississippi en Plein Air: A Gathering of Artists,"  rotates locations around the state. The most recent “on location”paint out included 80 artists and was highlighted on HGTV’s show “Home Town”, Season 4 Episode 12, entitled “Termite Terror.”

 

To be creative during the pandemic, the Mississippi Plein Air Painters hosted a Webinar in October 2020 that included presentations from 4 professional Mississippi artists.

Plans for the "Mississippi en Plein Air: A Gathering of Artists 2021" is ongoing with a location of Ocean Springs, MS and Tupelo 2022. The event is intended to give artists a time to “gather” together, socialize, network, and focus on the joy of plein air, which means to paint outdoors.
